Anticrepuscular rays are spectacular optical phenomena that are quite rare, but to see them you have to have your back to the setting sun. As this Environmental Graffiti blog explains, “They are columns of sunlit air streaming through gaps in clouds, converging toward the point in the sky directly opposite the sun.”
